Neighborhood survey about the proposed tree planting on the banks of the bayou:
1. Have you heard that there is grant money available for the beautification of the banks of Bayou Saint John? ________ Over the past month the Parkview Neighborhood Association board members have gathered opinions and ideas from neighbors about how this money could be spent. Below please find all of the ideas that were given to us, as well as a spot for you to offer your own ideas.
2. How do you feel this grant money should be spent: (please circle all that apply)
• I think the money should be spent on general upgrades: repairing the banks of the bayou, embarkation areas (the cement sitting areas), and improving the quality of the water.
• I think the money should be spent planting more reeds, rushes, and cat tail plants in the lower areas of the bayou to encourage cleaner water, animal and plant life (like the reeds and rushes currently planted near Dumaine and Moss, and near Carrollton and Esplanade/City Park Ave.)
• I think the money should be spent on planting lots of trees at intervals down the banks of the bayou.
• I would like to see some trees, picnic areas with trash cans, benches and places to hang out on the banks of the bayou.
• I think the money should be spent on more trash cans, dog waste bag dispensers, more frequent trash pick-up and more frequent grass cutting on the banks of the bayou all year round.
• I think the money should be spent on a few oak trees or similar trees at a few spots on the banks of the bayou.
• I think the money should be given to the ReBridge group to help repair and repaint the Magnolia Bridge and the Dumaine Bridge.
• I think the money should be spent to plant irises and other easy-care flowers, bushes and plants along the banks of the bayou and along Moss Street (near the road way) to discourage boats being tied up and to discourage cars parking on the grass.
• I would like to see the money spent on improving the quality of the water and stocking the bayou with fish for a charity fishing rodeo to benefit the firehouse in our neighborhood.
